The reality of living in Africa
Three Months Later -
The Reality of Living in the House I Built in Kenya
Three months ago I moved into the house I built here by the ocean in Kenya. It was a big step. A big investment. And if I’m honest – a bit of a leap of faith.
So the question many people have asked me is: Was it worth it? Now, three months later, I finally have the answer.
Almost from the very first day I moved in, I also started renting out the house. The house has four rooms, and the room on the second floor is set up as a small studio with its own kitchenette and refrigerator so guests can cook for themselves. That room has actually been rented out the most, since people enjoy having their own private space.
I’ve had guests from many different parts of the world, which has been really fun. But the last month is have been Swedish guests also staying in the other rooms. During the time when the other houses on the property was still not completely finished I offered a lower price. But now everything is finally completed.
I have also hosted my first retreat here – a one-week yoga retreat – and it was absolutely wonderful.
Looking back after these three months, I feel very, very satisfied. The income from the rentals has allowed me to finish almost the entire property. There are still some small things left to do, but there probably always will be. The biggest expenses are now behind me.
In April I will travel back to Sweden, and during the summer the whole house will be rented out. I have also found a fantastic property manager who helps take care of both the rentals and everything around the house. Honestly, it feels like I have won the jackpot.
A New Chapter: The Co-Creation Retreat
And now a new chapter is opening.
In November I will host a Co-Creation Retreat here in the house for the entire month. This retreat is different. It is not only about me hosting it – it is about creating something together.
People who come here can also share their own gifts.
Maybe you hold breathwork sessions, coaching, therapy, sound healing, yoga, or another kind of workshop. During the retreat you can offer your own sessions to the guests staying here.
And the beautiful part is that the income from the sessions and workshops goes directly to the person holding them.
So you can come here, stay in this beautiful house, enjoy the warm weather, relax, connect with others – and at the same time share your work and earn your own income.
Maybe this is calling you. Read more about the Co-Creation Retreat below.
